Question 4: What are the key sentences? 1) A fear of failing Australia's citizenship test is stopping refugees from applying to become citizens, a Victorian ethnic group says. 2) If refugees lived in a refugee camp for the last five or six years, they went through trauma, did not have school and never had education in general, and how they will be able to get up that to that level. 3) His comments came after the federal government on Monday announced it would review the citizenship test, as results show refugee groups had higher fail rates than others doing the test. 4) Since the test was introduced last October, 1,286 people failed it at their first attempt. 5) "We are not saying do not do the test because a lot of people come from better education, calmer area, no wars," he said.

Turning point and Achievement

Turning point: Nelson Mandela became increasingly aware of the unjust nature of South African Society. Turning points: Mandela became involved in politics. Achievement: to finish his degree and qualified as a Lawyer. Achievement: Mandela and Tambo opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa. Achievement: Mandela helped found the ANC Youth League. Turning point: Mandela had to resign from the ANC and work underground. Achievement: Conducting their own defence they eventually proved to be victorious. Turning point: This led Mandela to advocate armed struggle through the Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK). Turning point: By 1962 Mandela had been arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. Turning point: In his autobiography Mandela reveals how he sought to make the best use of his time there. Achievement: He helped to keep other Men’s spirits high and never compromised his political principles when offered earlt release. Turning point: Mandela’s release in 1990. Achievement: First democratically elected State President of South Africa on and was President until June 1999. Achievement: His advocacy of reconciliation led to international acclaim and importantly the trust of the White African population. Turning point: lost his eldest son. Turning point: Retiring from office. Achievement: Nelson Mandela has continued to be an international figure of great stature. Achievement: Nelson Mandelais also associated with many educational programmes and initiatives such as Make Poverty History Campaign. Achievement: was awarded the Nobel Peace Prizejointly with F.W. De Klerk in 1993.

Nelson Mandela

1918- born at Qunu near Umtata.
1952- Mandela opened first Black Law firm in South Africa.
1944- found the ANC Youth League.
1949- Programme of Action adopted by ANC.
1952- Defiance Campaign and later acts of sabotage.
1960- Sharpeville massacre of 63 black South African’s changed the whole political climat.
1962- Mandela arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Island prison.
1990- Mandela released from prison.
1994- Mandela inaugurated as the first democratically elected State President of South Africa.
1999- President until June 1999.
1993- Mandela awarded the Nobel Peace Prizejointly with F.W. De Klerk.
